2.2 RATIONALE

Africa is a diverse continent, pulsing with creative energy. However, many of its children are born without access to basic healthcare. The lack of this essential human right holds everyone back. And it is Africa’s women who are bearing the brunt of this inequity.
Health inequality weakens Africa’s heart: accessible healthcare, with skilled medical staff who understand the communities they work in, strengthens it.
That’s why Amref Health Africa’s purpose is to break down barriers to health equity; and to train passionate health workers to put good health at the very heart of local communities. Together they are
ending inequality, making healthcare more widely available, and strengthening the entire continent to optimise its future.
From this need, and our solution, came our new global fundraising proposition: Make Africa’s Heartbeat Stronger.
It is a way to talk about many things. The scale of the issue. The statistics that starkly show the impact of healthcare inequality. The barriers that hold communities back from first base and trap people in illness and poverty, such as poor water and sanitation facilities. The children whose lives could flourish, or falter, depending on their access to healthcare. And, at the centre of it all, the health of women: because healthy women build healthy families and communities.
